Beginner Series - 2.5 hours 1/week
The beginner series of classes are focused on teaching students how to work with oil paints and center on the foundations of painting. Students will gain an understanding of the handling of oil painting materials as they learn both traditional and modern techniques through progressive painting exercises. Students will also increase their understanding of color, composition and light as they work toward discovering their own painterly voice. These classes are targeted to individuals without any painting experience or for students who have painted with other mediums, but have never worked in oil before, need a refresher, or are just getting started.
Intermediate Series - 3 hours 1/week
The Intermediate classes are for students with previous experience in oil painting looking to take their work to the next level and advance their skills. The intermediate series focuses on technical issues, subject matter and working methodology. Students will concentrate on specific painting genres such as historical narratives, portraiture, scene painting, landscapes, and still life as they learn to hone their conceptual skills and expand their problem solving proficiency.
Advanced Series - 3 hours 1/week
Advanced level classes address student’s individual issues pertinent to sharpening a critical eye for self assessment while learning to clarify artistic concept and intention. The advanced level series are for artists who feel blocked and/or are looking to improve their practice or for students wishing to develop a body of work for professional pursuit. The Advanced Series classes are geared toward art discourse and painting critique, giving positive feedback and support necessary to locate authenticity.
